"Word of Mouthtm: Sharing Our Lives" Poetry Workshop

What is the "Word of Mouth" workshop about?
"Word of Mouth: Sharing Our Lives," is a workshop
for older adults to share their experiences life
experiences
through poetry, storytelling and writing. The
workshop will be held at
Bethany Village, a retirement community. During
each session, Poet Iven
Lourie will encourage each participant to share a
poem or memory on a
particular theme and create a poem, a poetry collage
or story. The poems or
'pearls of wisdom', will explore a range of topics
that may include: Family
Life, Work, Faith, the Great Depression, War,
Change, Struggle and Hope. As
personal stories are connected with broader social
themes and memories are
transformed into art, listeners and readers will
identify and empathize with
poetry as a profound form of the humanities. The
Poetry Project hopes to
encourage older adults in the community to bring
their own memories to life
through poetry and invites the community to learn
and listen to their
stories.
